Gynaecomastia is the increase in breast tissue in men, common in puberty which can carry through to adulthood. In most cases the issue is resolved itself once the person has gone through puberty but it can remain and require treatment.

Some causes of gynaecomastia

Different causes include:

  • Transferring of maternal estrogens
  • Reduced level of testosterone hormone
  • Angrogen resistance
  • Dialysis and renal disease
  • Testicular tumours
  • Viral orchitis
  • Stress and obesity
  • Certain medications

Symptoms of gynaecomastia

Some of its symptoms are:

  • Increase in the size of one or both breasts
  • Painful or tender nipple and breast
  • Enlarged lymph nodes, retraction of nipples and nipple discharge
  • One breast gets affected during male breast cancer
  • Reddish, painful and swollen breasts
